Licence agreement
What you may and may not do with a StephensonAudio plug-in.
Last updated 27 August 2026.
This is the agreement for the software itself. It is between you and Dillan Stephenson Audio Products. Installing or using a plug-in means accepting it.
What you get
A personal, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use the plug-in, for as long as you keep to this agreement. You are licensed the software, you do not own it. Everything in it stays ours.
What you may do
- Install it on any machine you personally use, at home or in a studio. The licence follows the person, not the computer, so a desktop and a laptop are fine.
- Use it on any work you like, including commercial releases. Music you make with it is yours. No royalties, no credit required, no extra licence for a release.
- Make copies for backup.
- Use it at a studio you are working in, as long as you are the one using it.
What you may not do
- Give away, sell, rent, lend or publish the plug-in or your licence key. A key is yours alone.
- Install it for other people to use as if it were theirs, or leave it installed on a machine you have handed on.
- Work around, remove or interfere with the licensing, or use a key you were not given.
- Take it apart, decompile it or reverse engineer it, except exactly as far as the law says you may despite this clause. In the United Kingdom that includes decompiling for interoperability under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
- Remove the copyright notices, or pass the work off as your own.
Sounds and presets
Sound made by the plug-in is yours to use however you want, including commercially, and including in sample packs of your own recordings.
The factory presets are ours, and the exception is redistribution as content: do not extract, repackage or resell the presets or the sampled material as a preset pack or sample library. Using them in your tracks is exactly what they are for.
Your licence key and activation
A key unlocks the plug-in on the machines you use. The plug-in and the installer work out a fingerprint of the machine so a licence can be counted against it. What that fingerprint is, and what we do with it, is set out in the privacy notice.
If you run out of activations because a machine died or was rebuilt, email us and we will reset it. This is not a trap and there is no fee.
Updates
Updates to a plug-in you own are included. We are not promising a particular update, on a particular date, or that a future version will keep working on an operating system its maker no longer supports.
If the licence ends
This licence ends if you break it in a way that matters and do not put it right within a reasonable time of us asking. If it ends, stop using the plug-in and uninstall it. Anything you already made with it stays yours: that does not unwind.
No warranty, and the honest limits of that
The software is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it is free of faults or that it will suit a particular purpose.
That sentence does not take away your statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and nothing here overrides it. We also do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to that, our total liability connected with the software is limited to what you paid for it, and we are not liable for lost work, lost recordings or lost profit. Save often.
Open source in the plug-in
The plug-ins are built on other people's work, and their licences are reproduced on the third party notices page. Nothing in this agreement takes away a right you have under one of those licences.
Law
England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales, with your local mandatory consumer protection preserved if you live elsewhere in the UK.
